Suns open brief trip in LA
The Phoenix Suns play the first of a short two-game road trip against Pacific Division rivals tonight, as they visit the struggling Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center.
Phoenix is scheduled to square off with superstar Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday at the same venue.
The Suns try to win back-to-back games this evening. Two-time MVP Steve Nash collected a season-high 35 points and seven assists and Amare Stoudemire posted 31 points and eight rebounds, as Phoenix exploded for 61 second-half points on their way to a 122-114 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday at US Airways Center.
Nash shot a scorching 13-for-17 from the floor, hitting five three-pointers, while Boris Diaw posted a season-high 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Raja Bell added 13 points for the Suns, who shot a torrid 57 percent from the floor en route to winning for the third time in their last four outings.
Phoenix, which has dropped three of its last five games as the visitor, is 13-7 on the road this season.
The Los Angeles Clippers, who wrap up a six-game road trip on Tuesday, enter tonight's contest on a four-game losing streak. On Saturday, Jerry Stackhouse's buzzer- beating three-pointer capped a fourth-quarter comeback and gave the Dallas Mavericks a 95-94 victory over the Clippers at the Staples Center.
Tim Thomas had 21 points in the loss for the Clippers, who have dropped 10 of their last 11 games. Corey Maggette ended with 20 points and seven rebounds before fouling out, while Cuttino Mobley scored 20 and handed out six assists.
The Clippers are 5-13 as the host this season. They will visit Carlos Boozer and the Utah Jazz on Friday at EnergySolutions Arena.
This is the fourth and final meeting of the campaign between the Suns and Clippers. Phoenix has won all three contests.
Phoenix has also won two straight and six of its last eight at the Clippers.
