Five on One: Careful what you wish for
Kobe Bryant (above) reiterated Sunday that he wants to be traded, and one of the teams Kobe Bryant reportedly is interested in landing with is the Bulls. That’s an exciting prospect for Bulls fans, but beware. Five reasons Kobe Bryant coming to Chicago could backfire:
1. Kobe Bryant’s personality. Kobe Bryant couldn’t get along with Shaq, and couldn’t get along with the current regime in L.A. Who’s to say more storm clouds would not hover in Chicago?
2. Asking price. Bulls fans bemoan what could have been if they held on to Elton Brand and mixed him in with their current core. Would fans have similar regrets in a few years with Luol Deng and whoever else is used as bargaining chips starring elsewhere?
3. Endless Jordan comparisons. Kobe Bryant has a big enough ego not to wilt in the face of expectations, but anything short of NBA championships would have Kobe Bryant skewered in comparisons to MJ.
4. Doesn’t fix the problem. Although Kobe Bryant would be a major upgrade, guard-play hasn’t been the Bulls’ biggest problem. That remains a lack of production in the post.
5. Ticket prices. You can bet the Bulls would jack them up.
