Elton Brand was born on March 11, 1979, in Peekskill New York. Elton is 6 feet 8 inches tall, 268 lbs. He tried out for high school basketball team at Peeksville High at the age of thirteen years old. The coach said that after he saw Elton win the tip, score over 30 points, and rebound every shot he took, he knew he wanted Elton on the Varsity squad. He did great on the varsity team and his coach thought he needed a challenge.
By his sophomore year he was the best on the team, and the region. When he was a senior he recevied the McDonald's All-American award, for averging 25.9 points a game, .6 blocks a game and 16.2 rebounds a game. He was getting over 250 letters from college's. His coach researched alot of schools and Elton Brand picked Duke for it's high graduation rating. He coach warned him he a very slim chance of getting any playing time. His Duke coach said the same thing. That didn't stop him from suprising everyone and winning almost every award that a college player can earn. He was rising to the top. One of the things that let him know he was going to have a great professional career ahead of
him was that he won the "Sporting News Player of the year award after his sophomore year at duke only two players have every done that, basketball legends his sophomore year at duke only two players have every done that, basketball legends Michael Jordan and Bill Walton. He left Duke after his sophomore year, and entered the '99 NBA Draft and became the only Duke player to be the first pick overall. He was picked by the Chicago Bulls. Durning his first two seasons with the Bulls he averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks per game. He was named co-rookie of the year. In 2001 he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers and made the 2002 All-Star game.
